Using the most advanced technologies and working with a palette of decorative special effects,
Arkay meets any visual challenge.
EMBOSSING: The raising or lowering (Debossing) of the printed surface. Arkay has the capability of
single-level or multi-level Embossing to add dimensionality to the package. Use along or with other
finishing techniques, we create a unique package for your product – one that grabs the customer
and draws their attention to your product.
TEXTURED FINISHES: Sometimes we want more than a specific look for your packaging – you also
want a specific feel. At Arkay we accomplish this using a wide range of textured finishes. Just another
way we strive to make your vision come to life.
STAMPING: Applying a high-quality (often metallic) finish to an area of the a carton. Stamping has
been a specialty of Arkay for over sixty years. We have the capability to stamp on top of many different
coatings. Using our experience and expertise, we can create a wide variety of effects including holographic
or richly pigmented effects.
PAINT ON PRESS®: Arkay’s trademarked and registered technique reveals all of the true graphic possibilities
contained within our customers’ artwork. Enhancing the artists’ design concept, while working to develop
the most cost-effective production methodology, Paint on Press® presents an invaluable and unique
opportunity to benefit our customers!

Arkay has achieved CarbonNeutral® status and is working with Natural Capital Partners, a world-leading provider of carbon reduction solutions, offsetting our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with The CarbonNeutral® Protocol, the global standard for carbon neutral certification. In our continuing effort to contribute to the fight against global warming, Arkay installed a white roof on our facility in Roanoke, which aids in the reduction of energy consumption, and our entire facility uses only LED lighting. Arkay has also achieved Gold Recognition certification from EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, intelligence, and collaborative performance improvement tools for global supply chains. In addition to these distinctions, Arkay is proud to have achieved G7 Master Qualification with colorspace compliance by demonstrating through production of print and/or proofing, the knowledge, skill, and best practices required to effectively operate the G7 methodology in a graphic communications production environment.

WE FOLLOW STRICT GUIDELINES FOR END OF LIFE RECYCLING

Paperboard: Arkay understands the importance of using high quality paperboard for our packaging products, while simultaneously seeking the most sustainable options available. Arkay uses FSC® Certified paperboard products for our packaging – other sustainable options chosen for various types of paperboard used at Arkay are CarbonNeutral®, Chlorine Free, ISO 14001 Certified, post-consumer recycled material content, biodegradable paperboard and coatings, and renewable hemp fibers. The majority of our paperboard products are recyclable at most local recycling facilities, the only exception being products treated with polyethylene (LDPE).

Foil: The foils used at Arkay can be recycled with the package at most local recycling facilities, assuming all other components of the package are recyclable. Foil can be removed by standard processes at most recycling facilities with no remaining residue. The foil used at Arkay also does not interfere with the biodegradation process in landfills.

Inks and Dyes: The inks and dyes used at Arkay do not interfere with the recyclability of our packaging and are easily removed with standard de-inking processes at most local recycling facilities.

Plastic Windowing: Any plastic windowing used in our packaging must be separated and removed from the paperboard package prior to recycling. The plastic windowing material should be thrown away, while the paperboard package can be recycled at most local recycling facilities.

Arkay understands that waste reduction and waste management is an important aspect of environmental protection, and we strive to do our part to contribute positively to these impacts. At Arkay we focus on using materials that are sustainably sourced or made of recycled and recyclable materials. To ensure we are recycling properly, Arkay has a robust Recycling Management Program, which maximizes the efficiency with which fiber waste is recycled by arranging its transport from plant to paper mill in a measurable, defined daily. Arkay will continue to assess how we can minimize our waste and improve our recyclability among our products, including materials assessments, internal recycling programs, customer engagement,and labelling procedures.

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international non-profit organization promoting responsible management of the world’s forests by setting standards on forest products, along with certifying and labeling them as eco-friendly.

PEFC

Arkay is approved for the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standard, an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM), through independently third-party certification. Thanks to the label, customers and consumers are able to identify products from sustainably managed forests.

Arkay submitted a CDP Climate Change questionnaire in 2021. By submitting to CDP, we are providing our customers with data to inform decision-making, reduce risks, and identify opportunities.
